There’s immense power being kind to other people. Something as simple as saying hello, smiling or holding the door for someone can turn their entire day around.
Small acts like kindness can have an immense impact on the world, as it often has a ripple effect — creating warmth, happiness and joy inside the person receiving the kindness, who then often passes that onto other people as a way to pay it forward.
Recently,Caring Transitions Oakland Macomb headed up an act of kindness for the local communities it served with a flower drop-off event. By bringing flowers to people to brighten up their day, members of Caring Transitions’ team participated in an act of community service that’s worth well more than the beautiful flowers themselves.
This event was part of the Caring for a Cause initiative, which is an integral part of how Caring Transitions Oakland Macomb gives back.
Caring for a Cause

There are people in need in just about every community across the country. Some people need food, clothing and shelter; some need financial guidance, education and employment assistance; others, still, need companionship, grace and fellowship.
All communities thrive on support, connection and kindness. Through various acts of service, you can play a big role in building a supportive community.
Many times, when people think of giving back, they instantly turn to large efforts, such as donating money, running large fundraisers and similar things. But, while those acts certainly are impactful, donating your time and doing small acts of kindness for others can make a world of difference, too.
That’s what’s at the root of Caring for a Cause.
Caring Transitions believes wholeheartedly that giving back to the local community is our responsibility. Through the Caring for a Cause initiative, we officially commit ourselves to making a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans, seniors and all families in need.
Our goal is to do this in any way we can.

Sometimes, it’s strengthening partnerships we have with others in the local community so that we can make a bigger impact for everyone.
Sometimes, it’s donating things such as medical equipment and gently-used furniture to people in need.
Sometimes, it’s organizing and hosting larger fundraisers or community-driven efforts such as charity auctions, local fundraisers, and food and coat drives.
Sometimes, it’s making people smile with fresh, beautiful flowers.
Flower Drop-Off Event

A recent initiative we undertook was our flower drop-off event. This involved donating flower arrangements to people who were feeling down, don’t have a large group of supporters or who just generally could use a pick-me-up.
We partnered with others in the local community and created a team of volunteers who brightened people’s days by delivering these flowers directly to them.
On the surface, flowers may not seem like a meaningful way to make a difference in the community or someone’s life, but they certainly do. Acts of kindness like this show other people you care. They serve as connection points between members of the community, helping people to have hope and to approach life from a new perspective — especially if they’re facing some mental struggles.
While the flowers are meant to make a direct impact on the people who are receiving them, they also serve as a pick-me-up for those involved in the volunteer effort. It’s a great opportunity for volunteers to get out in the community, meet new people, form new connections and feel as though they are making a difference.
Those feelings often lead to more future acts of kindness and service, and an overall better approach to life for the volunteers, too.
Our flower drop-off event serves many purposes and has a big impact on the local community.
Our Mission and Values
At Caring Transitions Oakland Macomb, we are dedicated to transforming the way seniors and their families transition through life’s stages. For us, serving the community is an integral part of that dedication, which is why it’s such a big part of our mission and values.
The flower drop-off event, and the Caring for a Cause initiative as a whole, fit in perfectly with everything else we do. In fact, they are only a part of some of our bigger goals, which we accomplish through ongoing advocacy efforts and educational outreach.
This includes senior care awareness, through which we ensure that families understand how important it is to provide the proper support for their loved ones who are aging; mental health education, through which we provide encouragement and resources for seniors who are facing cognitive decline and/or isolation; and community well-being through which we encourage engagement and volunteerism to create neighborhoods that are supportive and inclusive.
Every aspect of Caring for a Cause incorporates these major initiatives. The flower drop-off event, for example, served as a way to check-in on seniors and their families, boosted seniors’ mental well-being and helped to create a more inclusive and supportive community.
These events also serve as a great way for us to encourage others to volunteer more in the future — whether it’s by getting directly involved at local events such as this, spreading awareness of some of our goals and initiatives, or donating items that you no longer need.
By working together and staying dedicated to our core principles, we at Caring Transitions Oakland Macomb are confident we can all make a monumental impact on the communities we serve.
